How to Change Your Facebook Business Page Name in 2022

Want To Update Your Facebook Business Page Name? Here’s How!

There are a few reasons why you might need to change your Facebook business page name.

Maybe you’re rebranding, maybe you accidentally made a typo the first time around and it needs to be fixed…

…or maybe you just need to add something to the name – whatever the reason is, as a business owner, you need to know how to change it.

So we’re going to show you how to change your Facebook business page name in this quick post tutorial.

Let’s get started!

How To Change Your Facebook Business Page Name

Step 1: Log into Facebook on your desktop. You can’t do this via the Facebook app.

Step 2: Go to your Facebook business page, and on the left-hand sidebar menu, scroll down and click Edit Page Info.

Step 3: The first textbox there under the General section is where you can change your page name.

And when you click into the box, Facebook says,

“Your Page name should accurately reflect what the Page is about.

We review name changes to protect the identity of the businesses, brands, and organizations that Facebook Pages represent.”

So note that name changes will not be immediate or always necessarily approved.

They go through reviews from Facebook. So with that said, let’s discuss…

Some Things That Facebook Business Page Names Cannot Include

  1. Terms or phrases that may be abusive or violate someone’s rights.
  2. The word “official”, if the Page isn’t the official Page of a brand, place, organization, or public figure.

(If Facebook assigns a Page a verified badge, the Page should no longer use the word official in the Page name.)

  1. Improper capitalization. Page names must use grammatically correct capitalization and may not include all capital letters, except for acronyms.
  2. Symbols or unnecessary punctuation.
  3. Descriptions or slogans like The Best Cafe – We serve the best coffee in town for example.

People who manage Pages can add this information to a Page’s About section.

  1. And any variation of the word “Facebook.”
  2. They also cannot consist only of Generic words like Pizza or generic geographic locations (example: New York).

However, you can create a Page name for an organization that represents a geographic location.

For example, “New York City – Mayor’s Office” and “Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain” are acceptable Page names.

So that was a crash course on what not to do with your page names. Now let’s head back to the tutorial.

Beneath the field where you can change your page name, you’ll also see the option to…

Change Your Username

So let’s look at our Facebook page real quick as an example.

The one highlighted in yellow is our page name, and the one in the red box is our username.

We generally recommend that you make your page name and username be the same thing to make it that much easier for people to find you.

Here’s how to change your username.

If the name of your restaurant and Facebook page is Johnny’s Subs…

…but your username is Johnny’s Sandwiches, that could cause confusion for potential customers.

That would be bad for your lead generation marketing, and for your digital marketing strategy, in general.

And you don’t want to make it any harder for people to convert into a customer by confusing them right out of the gates about who you are.

What’s also important to know is that your username doubles as the URL for your Facebook page.

And if you don’t input your username there, Facebook will just come up with a random URL for your Facebook page like facebook.com/fj4k58 or something.

That would not be good for your Facebook marketing strategy.

As for us, the URL to our Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/lyfemarketing because our username is lyfemarketing.

Facebook says,

“It’s easier for people to find your page in search when you have a unique page name.

Pages with usernames can also create custom URLs that let people quickly visit and message them.”

So if you change your name, be sure to change your username to match.

And another key tip to keep in mind is remembering where you’ve placed your Facebook page URL in the past.

For instance, if you have your Facebook page linked to your website…

…remember that you need to change that URL once your page name and username change are approved and settled.

Update anywhere you linked out to your Facebook page in the past or else, they’re going to be broken links.

And that about wraps up how to change your Facebook business page name and your username!
