Facebook Reels Monetization: How to Get Started

Facebook Reels Monetization – Is It Real?

So we know that Facebook Reels are a great way to explode your reach, generating brand awareness, engagement, traffic, and more.

But, did you know that now you can monetize them?

Monetizing your Reels means you get paid by Facebook to post them!

If you all are seeing dollar signs too and want to know more about this or how to get started with it, keep reading.

So Facebook Reels, as we know, are the Facebook version of Instagram Reels

social media updates

If you’re completely new to them or don’t know what they are, here’s our complete guide to Facebook Reels that you can read next.

In this post, we’re covering all about Facebook Reels monetization.

But before we tell you how you can monetize your Facebook Reels, let’s start by quickly answering the question:

What Does Monetizing My Videos Mean?

Monetizing your videos means you are allowing Facebook to place ads on your videos, and in return, Facebook pays you for it.

If you’ve watched our YouTube videos for a while (or any YouTube videos in general)…

…we’re sure you’ve seen monetized YouTube videos where there’s an ad in the middle of it.

It’s the same general concept…

…except with Facebook Reels, instead of playing a video in the middle of your Reel like a YouTube video ad, it’s a static image and caption.

What Monetized Facebook Reels Look Like

So if you want to start with Facebook Reels monetization, you’re probably wondering what exactly do these monetized Reels look like?

At the time that we’re writing this, there are two ways Facebook can display ads on your Reels: banner ads and sticker ads.

So in addition to the space your caption, comments, and engagement buttons take up…

…you’ll need to be aware of the space potential ads could occupy when planning where to put the text on your videos.

But we will say that with Sticker Ads, in particular, you can actually adjust the positioning of it on your Reel before publishing.

Now, some of you reading may be thinking:

“I’m a business owner trying to promote my business, my product. Why would I want to put someone else’s ad on my Reel?”

Fair question!

All we can say is its extra cash flow for you and the ad displayed on your Reel is not always going to be someone within your industry.

This means you wouldn’t worry too much about whether it’s a rival’s ad and here’s why.

Since we monetize our YouTube videos, we get other digital marketers advertising their marketing courses, etc. all the time.

Those ads play before and sometimes in the middle of our videos.

We’re sure you guys have seen them and clicked Skip on them, right?

Having those ads around our videos has not slowed down our YouTube growth or business growth, at all.

So if that’s the only hesitation you have towards monetizing your Facebook Reels, our 2 cents is we wouldn’t worry about it.

Speaking of YouTube monetization, check out this post next to learn how to earn money on YouTube.

How To Get Started With Facebook Reels Monetization

You have to be eligible.

Check out this Meta support page next because this will have all the information you need, but let’s walk through it briefly together.

  1. You must pass and remain compliant with Facebook’s Partner Monetization Policies.
  2. You must live in a country that is eligible for in-stream ads.

They have that list of countries as well as those policies hyperlinked there for you.

Also, “overlay ads may only be used in publicly shared Facebook Reels.”

Outside of those 3 things, Facebook says:

“Eligibility requirements for overlay ads on Facebook Reels are the same as eligibility requirements for in-stream ads on Facebook.”

And they link this page as a resource. So that page will show you step by step how to meet all of the eligibility criteria.

Facebook’s Reels Play Bonus Program

“The Reels Play bonus program is an invitation-only program that gives creators the opportunity to earn money from Facebook…

…by creating and sharing eligible reels on Facebook.

Reels may earn bonuses by achieving certain performance targets during the duration of the program.

The Reels Play bonus program will contain individual time-based bonus opportunities that are accessed in Creator Studio.”

And if you want to learn more about Facebook Creator Studio, be sure to read this post after.

So as you just heard, this is an invite-only program, which is why we didn’t lead with this because it may not be applicable to everybody reading.

But if you did receive a notification about it, this Meta support page will help you get started with Reels Play Bonuses.
