5 Reasons Why Your TikToks Are Not Going Viral

Are your TikToks failing to get the traction you want?

For once in the world of social media, we’re sorry to tell you but it’s not the algorithm, it’s you.

If you’re posting a lot of content but not getting views or engagement…

…read to the end of this post because we’re going to tell you exactly why your TikToks are not going viral.

Let’s jump right in!

5 Reasons Why Your TikToks Are Not Going Viral

  1. You’re not picking good audios.
  2. Your content isn’t good.
  3. The intro is not attention-grabbing.
  4. You’re going against community guidelines.
  5. You’re not using search words.

1. You’re not picking good audios.

TikTok was originally known as the app Musical.ly.

Songs and audios have always been and still are a huge part of the platform.

We would argue that the reach you get through your sound choice is more important than other methods like hashtags.

So how do you go about picking the song choice that goes along with your TikToks?

You do want to use trending audios, but try to pick newly trending audios.

The goal should be to get in on trends early.

If you hop on a trend months or even weeks later, you’re just one more of the millions contributing to the noise at that point.

You want to pick trending audios that are only a few hours or days old, so you can be one of the first to use it and reap the most reach from them.

Now once you’ve got that audio selected, don’t blow it with bad content.

This leads us to the next reason why your TikToks are not going viral.

2. Your content isn’t good.

As a social media management company, we can give little tips and tricks on how to tweak your TikTok all day long…

…but ultimately if your content sucks, nothing else you fix is going to matter.

So once you’ve gotten some good reach and attention by picking better audios, make sure you’re creating awesome content to match it.

Because that’s what will increase your likes and comments as opposed to just your views.

TikTok will serve your content to a handful of people at first and you’ll get some views from that.

But if you’re not getting engagement at a decent rate, TiKTok will think “hmm okay I guess people don’t like this”

…and they’ll stop showing your content to people.

So getting likes and comments is just as important as getting views if you want to continue getting views.

And the way to get that engagement is by creating good content.

So how do you create better content on TikTok? The main answer is to create content for your target audience, not for yourself.

If your content is not providing them value in some way, they’re not going to care enough to watch it.

Now, what if you’re using the right audios, and you’re making content about things that are relevant to your audience…

…but you’re STILL not getting good views?

It could be your hook! This brings us to the next reason why your TikToks are not going viral.

3. The intro is not attention-grabbing.

The best TikToks are short, usually like 15-30 seconds or less.

Now, of course, there are some TikTok stars who do get away with longer content.

But we would say for the most part, and especially for small businesses starting out on the platform…

…shorter content is going to be your best bet for your TikTok marketing.

That said, that means you have a tiny amount of time at the beginning of your video to catch people’s attention.

You have to do something exciting or a little bit click-bait-y or “TikTokish” at the beginning to get people’s attention.

For example, let’s say you’re selling a food delivery service that’s focused on healthy foods.

You could make a TikTok about how your grandpa loves the food…

…and the delivery part is so much more convenient for him than traveling to the crowded grocery store by himself.

Or how the food meets all of his doctor’s requirements and how it’s helped turn his health around.

But instead of leading with that, you could start the TikTok with:

“This delivery service SAVED my grandpa’s life” with the scream emoji 😱 and make it really dramatic.

Because wouldn’t you be more inclined to watch that than if it started with:

“This food delivery service includes all organic, healthy options, and my grandpa loves it.”

See the difference?

The best thing we can suggest is to just spend some time on the TikTok app.

And that should help get the creative juices flowing on how you can TikTok-ify your intro for lack of a better word.

4. You’re going against community guidelines.

The next one on our list of reasons why your TikToks are not going viral is a quick fix.

If you’re breaking the rules with what you’re posting, not only is TikTok going to kill your reach…

…but you might even get banned if you don’t get it in check.

You might want to check out TikTok’s community guidelines page that is separated by categories going down the left.

So make sure you’re not violating those and if you are, or if you have a strike against your account for one, make sure you appeal it.

Now our last reason as to why your TikToks are not going viral is something you may not have heard of yet, we haven’t seen it talked about a whole lot yet.

5. You’re not using search words.

Or at least, using them effectively.

While a large majority of users do spend their time on the app just scrolling through their For You page…

…there’s another percentage that searches for things on the app.

Like cool baking recipes, dog training tips, etc.

You want your TikTok to reflect the search terms that people might be searching for when they’re in need of your product or service.

We’ve said this before on our blog, but most social media apps are turning into hybrid search engines as well, and TikTok is no different.

So include those keywords both in your caption as well as in the text on screen in your video to help your videos get found.

And that wraps up our 5 reasons as to why your TikToks are not going viral!

Take a look at your account and try fixing any and all of these things you may be doing, and see what kind of an impact it makes in your analytics!
