Here’s How To Change Your YouTube Name!
There are many reasons why you may want to change your YouTube name.
Maybe you need to rebrand, maybe there’s a spelling mistake you need to fix…
…or maybe you currently have a personal channel and want to change the name from your first and last name to your company name.
Whatever the reason is, we’re going to show you how to change your YouTube name in this post.
Let’s get started!
What’s The Difference Between A Personal Account & A Brand Account?
The quickest way to tell if you have a brand account is to head to your YouTube Studio.
And then click Settings, click Channel, click “Advanced settings”, scroll down and click Manage YouTube account.
Then scroll down and if you see the ability to add or remove managers, then you’re signed into a brand account.
Personal accounts don’t have this option.
Now thankfully, the method we’re about to show you works for both types of accounts.
But if you’re running a business, we would highly recommend you use a brand account.
So if you want to learn why and how to set one up, you can read our other post on how to create a YouTube channel.
Steps On How To Change Your YouTube Name
Step 1: Head to YouTube Studio, click Customization, click Basic Info, and then click the editing pencil next to your name.
Step 2: Change your name to whatever you want your channel name to be.
Step 3: Finally, click the Publish button on the right side.
And it’s as simple as that!
Now just to show you from a personal account, you follow all the same steps as the ones we just went over, click Publish, and voila!
You can click over to your channel to ensure the name has changed, and just click back to Customization if you want to change it again.
Now you do have to do this from a desktop.
Even though you can access YouTube Studio from the YouTube mobile app by downloading the YouTube Studio app…
…it doesn’t give you access to Customization.
So changing your name on YouTube is super easy.
But some of you may be wondering what to do if you have a personal channel, and want to not only change the name to your company name…
…but change your personal account to your brand account.
We’re going to show you how to do that real quick as well, but just to quickly remind you to go and check out our new social media ads training course.
You’ll find a whole lot of new tips, as well as some tested tricks you can try on your social advertising strategy.
So our how to create a YouTube channel post that we mentioned earlier shows you how to create a brand account from scratch.
But if you already have an existing personal account with tons of subscribers and videos that you don’t want to lose…
…there is a way that you can move them over to a brand account.
How To Change Your YouTube Personal Channel Over To A Brand Channel
Step 1: The first thing you’ll need to do is create a brand account.
Again, reference our other post for instructions on how to do that.
But this is going to be the brand channel that you move your personal channel over to.
Step 2: Once you’ve got your brand channel setup, click your profile icon, click “Switch accounts”, and make sure you’re back on your personal channel.
Step 3: From there click Settings, and then click “View advanced settings”.
Step 4: Scroll down and click “Move channel to a brand account.” From there, it will ask you to log in again to verify it’s you.
Step 5: Then, choose the account you want to move to from the list on your screen.
If you don’t have a list of accounts, you may want to check out this page…
…because you may not see a list for a few reasons, and this YouTube help page will help you troubleshoot why.
Step 6: Now “if the account you choose is already associated with a YouTube channel, click Replace, then select Delete channel in the box that pops up.”
It’s important to note that doing so will delete the channel that is already associated with that account.
YouTube says, “Any content associated with this channel will be permanently deleted, including videos, comments, messages, playlists, and history.”
Step 7: And then finally, double-check how your channel name will appear after moving, then click Move channel.
Now we would advise that you reference this YouTube help page as you do this process…
…to just triple-check that you’re moving the correct channel over to replace the correct channel.
Because you don’t want to get it backward and lose your subscribers.
So just make sure you execute those steps slowly and correctly, but that is how you move a personal channel over to a brand channel.
And so, those are the steps on how to change your YouTube name.
