What is Facebook Watch?
Is it the next YouTube? How can you leverage it to grow your business?
Stick around to find out because today, we’re going to discuss what Facebook Watch is all about and how you can use it for your business.
Let’s get started!
What Is Facebook Watch?
It’s a dedicated space on both the Facebook app and on a desktop that allows people to watch videos uploaded by Creators and businesses.
The videos you see there are a combination of videos from pages you follow…
…and videos that are picked out by Facebook’s algorithm based on what it thinks you will like.
Facebook says:
“Whatever your niche is, from entertainment to beauty, sports and beyond, people from around the world can discover, share and react to your videos on Watch.”
Now take note of this part, they said:
“No one can post directly to Watch; it’s a collection of videos from creators like you…
…that we curate for viewers to watch on-demand based on Pages they follow or we think they might like.”
So let’s unpack that a little more.
This means that Facebook Watch is not a direct equivalent to YouTube Channels.
You can’t just make a “Watch Channel” the way you would with a “YouTube Channel” and you can’t post your videos directly to Watch.
What you can do is upload videos to your Facebook page, something we show you on our how to upload a YouTube video tutorial…
…and encourage users to like and follow your page so that they’re likely to see your content on Watch.
Walk Through The Layout Of Facebook Watch
So looking at the Facebook Watch tab on the desktop, on the left-hand side, we see the menu within Facebook Watch.
Then we can click back and forth between to see different types of videos.
-
Home tab
Leaving it on the home tab like it is here will show you different videos that again are curated by Facebook.
They’re not necessarily videos from people or pages you follow.
-
Live tab
The Live tab is a collection of videos that are being recorded Live right now in the moment, again curated by the Facebook algorithm.
-
Music tab
The Music tab consists of music videos.
-
Shows
Shows are professionally produced shows that are Facebook Originals.
-
Explore tab
The Explore tab allows you to search for videos to work by genre or category.
-
Saved videos
And Saved videos is where all the videos you’ve saved are stored.
-
Your Watchlist
Now under “Your Watchlist”, you can see videos published by the different pages you “like”.
Or under the latest videos section, you can see a combination of videos from all the pages you like in chronological order.
Now, the tabs look a little different on mobile so let’s look at that really quickly.
- The “For You” tab is the equivalent of the Home Watch tab on the desktop.
- Live and Music are the same as the desktop version.
- Gaming shows, video game streamers, Following shows videos from the pages you follow.
- And Saved and Shows are the same as the desktop version.
So now that we know what Facebook Watch is and what it looks like on the platform, how can you leverage it to grow your business?
How Small Businesses Can Leverage Facebook Watch
We know that video has become the preferred media for customers, and that’s only taken off even more with Facebook Watch.
There are more than 4 billion video watches on Facebook every day, and you can tap into this by posting Facebook videos regularly.
So the first thing you want to do is create and upload videos on your Facebook business page on a regular basis.
And you want to optimize them so that they get a lot of views on Facebook, something you can learn from our how to get more views on YouTube.
Doing this will get your videos to appear under the Watchlist and Following tabs.
Now what you want to encourage from there is for people to turn their notifications on for your videos…
…and to select “All video notifications from this page.”
That way, people will get a Facebook notification every time you upload a video and are encouraged to watch all of your videos.
This is key and also why it’s so important that you read our 12 steps on how to increase video views.
Because the more time people spend watching and engaging with your videos…
…the more likely Facebook is to put your videos into someone’s home Watch feed.
If the algorithm is seeing that this one person watches all of your videos…
…then the algorithm is more likely to put your videos there, ready for them to watch when that person taps to the Watch feed.
And what’s more is that if Facebook sees that a person is all about your videos…
…Facebook is more likely to show your videos in the home Watch feed to other people who “look like” that person to the algorithm.
This means it could start snowballing into organic reach and brand awareness for you!
Facebook’s goal is to keep users on its platform for as long as possible, so if your videos are helping them do that, then Facebook is on your team.
Now if you want to learn more tips for your video marketing strategy, then here’s a post for that.
