Facebook Reels Updates You Need to Know

You would think when Facebook Reels launched, they would have all the same features as Instagram Reels, given that they share a parent company.

But to date that has not been the case.

There are lots of little things you can do with Instagram Reels that you can’t do with Facebook Reels.

To put it bluntly, driven all of us small business owners crazy, right?

But in today’s new post, we bring with us some good news!

Facebook has announced some new Facebook Reels updates and we’re covering them today, so read until the end of this post.

Let’s jump right in!

4 New Facebook Reels Updates

Update #1: Facebook has launched Reels globally.

We know that a lot of our readers are US based.

But for our other readers reading this around the world…

…you should know that Facebook Reels are now available in more than 150 countries for creators.

So for those of you that had been waiting on this, the day has come.

Update #2: They are taking steps to help creators earn more money.

They said:

“Our Reels Play bonus program, part of our $1 billion creator investment…

…pays eligible creators up to $35,000 a month based on the views of their qualifying Reels.

In the coming months, we’ll expand the bonus program to more countries, so more creators can get rewarded for creating Reels that their communities love.”

So if you haven’t had access to the Reels Play bonus program yet, keep a look out for that.

They’re also expanding tests of overlay ads, starting with banner and sticker ads.

They said they’re “building direct monetization options for Facebook Reels through ad revenue share and fan support…

…and expanding tests of Facebook Reels Overlay Ads to all creators in the US, Canada, and Mexico, and to more countries in the coming weeks.”

So as you can see, the banner ads appear at the bottom of the Reel…

…and sticker ads are a static image that can be placed anywhere on the Reel by the creator.

And creators will earn a portion of the ad revenue.

We’ve seen this with Instagram Reels ads, so it’s good that we’re seeing this available for Facebook Reels too.

Beyond that, Facebook said they’re:

“also launching brand suitability controls, including Publisher Lists, Blocklists, Inventory Filters, and Delivery Reports for Banner…

…and Sticker Ads in Facebook Reels in every region they are available…

…giving advertisers more control over how their ads appear in places they don’t consider suitable for their brand or campaign.”

So this means, you’ll have more of a say in where your ads appear.

Depending on the nature of your brand, there may be some Reels where it might feel inappropriate to see your ad.

Facebook is giving you more control to prevent this from happening.

Additionally, Facebook says, they’ve:

“been testing full-screen and immersive ads in between Facebook Reels and will roll them out to more places around the world over the coming months.

Just like with organic content on Facebook, people can comment, like, view, save, share and skip them.”

We’ve already seen some of these full-screen ads in our personal scrolling, comment below and let us know if you have it too!

Update #3: We’re getting more editing capabilities.

Some of these new Facebook Reels editing features include Remix, 60-second Reels, drafts, and video clipping.

So again, we’ve already gotten used to a lot of these features on Instagram Reels, but now we can finally utilize them on Facebook Reels too.

Update #4: You can create and discover Reels in new places.

You can now share public Reels to Facebook Stories.

You can watch Reels directly within the Watch tab and at some point, we should be able to create Reels within the watch tab as well.

Facebook is adding a new Reels label at the top of the Feed so we’ll be able to create and watch Reels in fewer clicks.

And they’re also starting to suggest Facebook Reels in the feed, something they’ve already tested on Instagram.

Suggested Reels will be shown to people not because they follow those creators but because Facebook’s AI thinks they will enjoy them.

It’s a means to give creators more reach and hopefully more followers.

Speaking of using Facebook Stories for your business, here’s a post to learn more about how to do so.

Wrapping Up

So with these four updates, we gotta say we’re glad they made them BUT there is still room for further improvement.

Like why are we still not able to edit the cover photos on a Facebook Reel?!

Anyways, the point being Facebook Reels still aren’t fully up to speed with Instagram Reels yet.
